At the Regional Conference on “Drug Trafficking and National Security” in Karnataka’s Bengaluru on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will concentrate on issues like how to stop drug trafficking via maritime routes and harsh punishments for drug traffickers leading to zero tolerance.
In the conference presided over by the Home Minister, additional topics like seamless coordination and cooperation between state and federal drug law enforcement agencies and the containment of the spread of drug abuse through a concerted awareness program will also be covered. According to a statement from the Home Ministry, representatives from the conference will come from three UTs and five Southern States.
During the meeting, the Union Home Minister will also supervise the destruction of 9,298kg of confiscated drugs with a market value of Rs 1,235 crore.
According to the Ministry, “Under PM Modi’s leadership, a total of 5,94,620 kilograms of seized drugs, valued at Rs 8,409 crore, have been destroyed so far, exceeding the target by a significant margin.
“The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav set a target to destroy 75,000 kg of drugs during a 75-day campaign beginning June 1, 2022. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) alone has destroyed 1,29,363 kg of seized drugs valued at Rs 3,138 crore out of the total amount of drugs destroyed.”
