The Andersonpet police have registered a murder case and are currently investigating the incident. A newly married woman, identified as Likitha, 19, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Naveen, 27, following an argument on Wednesday evening in Karnataka’s Kolar district.
The incident occurred in Chambarasabahalli in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) around 6 pm, just hours after their wedding. According to the police, “The wedding of the couple was held in a marriage hall in the Chambarasabahalli village and after the ceremony, the couple spent some time with their relatives at the marriage hall,” said a police officer from the Anderson Police Station.
Naveen took Likitha and his in-laws to his uncle’s house for refreshments. Shortly after, Naveen and Likitha went into a room and closed the door. Moments later, relatives heard them shouting and, peeking through a window, saw Naveen attacking Likitha with a machete.
The relatives tried to break down the door but couldn’t do so immediately. When they finally managed to open it, they found Likitha in a pool of blood and Naveen injured. The family called for an ambulance, but due to a delay, they took the couple to R L Jalappa Hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
Doctors declared Likitha “brought dead,” while Naveen, who is in critical condition, was admitted for further treatment. The police are still trying to determine the cause of the fight and how Naveen obtained the machete at his uncle’s house. “We will be able to know the reason only when Naveen can talk. The family members are also not aware of what led to the incident,” said a police officer.
Naveen owned a cloth shop, and Likitha had recently completed her pre-university education.
