West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government for neglecting the safety and security of train passengers. “The Railway Ministry doesn’t care about passenger amenities. They don’t even care about railway officials, engineers, technical staff, and workers. They are also in trouble because their old pension has been withdrawn. I am completely with the railway employees and officials,” the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief stated.
Her comments followed the recent Kanchenjungha Express train collision, which resulted in 15 deaths and several injuries. Banerjee also accused the government of focusing solely on elections. “They focus on hacking, manipulation, and rigging elections. They should spend more time on governance, not on rhetoric,” she asserted.
It is important to note that Banerjee’s TMC is part of the opposition alliance INDIA, which contested against the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
