Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant (DY) Chandrachud took oath as the 50th Chief Justice of India. As Chief Justice, he will be having tenure of two years as CJI and demit office on 10 November, 2024. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of the office of the Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Justice Chandrachud will assume office 9 November. The retirement age for the Supreme Court judges is 65 years. Justice Chandrachud is the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court. Justice YV Chandrachud, father of DY Chandrachud was the 16th serving Chief Justice of India.

Justice D Y Chandrachud is considered as one of the most liberal and progressive judge of the country. He has always safeguarded the fundamental rights of the citizens. Not to mention, he shows no sensitivity and shows a tough attitude towards the abusers. Justice Chandrachud, born on November 11, 1959, was appointed judge of the Supreme Court on May 13, 2016.
Justice Chandrachud was the judge of the Bombay High Court from March 29, 2000, until appointment as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
He had also served as Additional Solicitor General of India from 1998 until appointment as a judge in the Bombay High Court. He was designated as a senior advocate by the Bombay High Court in June 1998.
