Security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Acting on specific intelligence, the Indian Army launched an anti-infiltration operation in the Gohallan area of north Kashmir’s Uri sector.
Army personnel detected suspicious movements near the LoC early Saturday morning. When challenged, the infiltrating terrorists opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the Army. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, leading to the neutralization of two terrorists. Although the bodies have not been recovered due to the challenging terrain near the LoC, the Army continues to maintain a tight cordon in the area.
This incident comes amidst a series of terror attacks in the region starting from June 9. These attacks have claimed the lives of 10 pilgrims and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, with several others injured. The recent spate of violence saw coordinated attacks across Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts. Security forces also neutralized two Pakistani terrorists in Kathua, recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
In response to the escalating violence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a firm statement during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing an event in Srinagar on June 20, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to counterterrorism. “The recent terror attacks have been taken very seriously by the Centre,” he declared. “We will not hesitate to teach a lesson to the enemies of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Prime Minister Modi assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the government is determined to establish lasting peace and continue on the path of development. His remarks were seen as a direct message to Pakistan, with the Prime Minister highlighting the resolve to overcome the challenges posed by the enemies of peace and humanity in the region.
The anti-infiltration operation in Uri reflects the continued vigilance and proactive measures by Indian security forces to safeguard the region and counter terrorist activities. As efforts to recover the bodies of the neutralized terrorists continue, the Army remains alert to any further threats along the LoC.
