The border villages of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) are once again filled with uncertainty and fear. Even though PM Narendra Modi has given a stern warning to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, people in these villages are still suspicious.
They are afraid that the hostilities will not last, and Pakistan’s army will again start targeting their villages. There has been recent shelling, especially in Samba district, which has put the people on their toes and further raised their fears.
New Fears in Border Villages
The fear of border villagers is a result of recent horrific incident that shook their lives in J&K. People in Samba district heard explosions and saw shells fall on their homes. A house was badly damaged when shell shrapnel blasted the kitchen and roof. For the villagers, this was a reminder that they are under threat all the time despite diplomatic guarantees.

Pakistan’s Aggression: A Permanent Menace
Even with understandings between India and Pakistan to keep the Line of Control (LoC) peaceful, such incidents discourage any possibility of long-term peace. Pakistan’s army has never demonstrated restraint, and the latest shelling further fuels the distrust between the two countries. Such regular attacks on civilian settlements reveal a pattern of aggression that resists appeals for calm.
PM Modi’s Strong Stand Against Terrorism
PM Modi has indicated that India will not stand for Pakistan-backed terrorism. His message, while denouncing the ongoing sponsorship of terror across the border, has been unequivocal. Yet villagers along the border remain uncertain if words will be followed by action on the other side. They worry that the suspension of hostilities will be violated once more, exposing them to renewed attacks.
Life in Constant Fear
Each day in these border territories is lived constantly under the fear of an oppressive attack. Every villager’s life hangs under a sword with every minute filled with anxiety hearing the news about explosions or arrivals of shells. Not knowing when they would face another episode of violence at the hands of Pakistan’s army keeps them suffocated by misery.
As tensions continue to simmer, these border towns are a witness to the shaky peace between Pakistan and India. Even as talks are held at the diplomatic level, the situation on the ground is bleak for residents of the Line of Control shadow.
