Jammu & Kashmir Election Results: NC-Congress Alliance Surges Ahead with 47 Seats

As the counting progresses, the Election Commission of India reports that the Jammu Kashmir National Conference and Congress alliance has crossed the halfway mark with leads in 47 seats, according to trends released at 10:15 AM. In most of the 90 constituencies, between three to five rounds of counting have been completed.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading in 28 seats as of the latest update. The results will determine the electoral fate of several former ministers, including Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukha, as well as Omar Abdullah, Ravinder Raina, Yousuf Tarigami, and others.

Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed optimism for the alliance’s chances and urged the BJP to refrain from any unethical tactics. “We are hopeful that we will win. The decision made by the voters of J&K will be clear by this afternoon. There should be transparency… If the people’s mandate goes against the BJP, they shouldn’t resort to any tricks. We formed this alliance to win, and we believe we will,” Abdullah stated.

Meanwhile, TS Tony, the Congress candidate from the Bahu Assembly seat, declared that the Congress-NC alliance is set to form the government. “The Congress-NC alliance will secure a two-thirds majority. People are no longer swayed by mere statements; the truth is out. This was once a city of temples, but the BJP has turned it into a city of liquor, claiming it’s for revenue generation. The public is frustrated with the liquor and land mafia and no longer trusts them. The BJP is undermining democracy. The appointment of five MLAs should be done by an elected government; even the President does not have the power for direct appointments. How can the Lieutenant Governor exercise such arbitrary power?” he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress, part of the INDIA alliance, contested the assembly elections together, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP ran independently. The J&K assembly election covered 90 constituencies and was conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1.
