Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind files plea seeking rehabilitation of demolition drive victims

The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions for the rehabilitation of those whose homes were razed by authorities in the Nuh district of Haryana in the past few days. Muslim body Jamiat, in a statement, said “Though the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered a halt on Monday to the demolition drive in violence-hit Nuh, it did not order rehabilitation of those displaced and compensation to them. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has appealed to the Supreme Court for the rehabilitation of the victims of the bulldozer operation, compensation and accommodation in transit houses, and taking due action against the guilty officers. It requested the honourable court to issue directions to all the states to refrain from the illegal demolition of bulldozers or strict action must be taken against them,” it added.
It further requested the court that other states are taking bulldozer action since the Supreme Court has not given further instructions to the states other than the stay order on the bulldozer action, it said The plea further stated that “Bulldozer operation is illegal, no matter whether bulldozers run on property of people of any religion. The bulldozing of houses of the alleged accused or simply because stones were allegedly pelted from such and such a building is like punishing before conviction which is legally wrong,” The plea further said that no house can be demolished even if its construction is illegal without giving notice, it is necessary to complete the legal process before carrying out the demolition process.
