Jairam Takes Swipe at BJP Over Gujarat Government Decision ‘Return of Land to Farmers’

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday took a swipe at the BJP-led central government, stating that more than 250 acres of land taken from villagers and given to the Adani Group in Gujarat are now being returned to the villagers by the state government. He questioned if the “climate change” happened after June 4 and whether this “tempo” will be maintained.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Ramesh, who is also Congress General Secretary and Communication In-Charge, said, “More than 250 acres of grazing land taken away some years back from villagers and handed over to the Adani Group by the Gujarat Govt. is now to be handed back to the village communities after their continued protests.”

“Climate change after June 4th? Will this ‘tempo’ be maintained though?” Ramesh asked.

He also attached a news report along with his tweet.

His remarks were aimed at the BJP, which was unable to secure a majority on its own in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The saffron party won 240 seats, a decrease of 63 seats from 2019 when it had won 303 seats on its own. The BJP-led central government has formed a government at the center with the support of its NDA allies, including Andhra Pradesh’s TDP, Bihar’s JD-U, and LJP-RV.

The Gujarat government decided to return nearly 108 hectares of pasture land to farmers that it had handed over to an Adani Group company after 13 years of a legal battle.

The state government on Friday informed the Gujarat High Court that it would take back nearly 108 hectares of gauchar (grazing) land it had given to Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd near Mundra port in the Kutch district in 2005.
