Face authentication has been enabled on all of India Post Payments Bank's (IPPB) banking platforms. By integrating facial recognition technology with the Aadhaar database, the functionality enables IPPB accountholders to do tasks like authorizing transactions or opening a savings account without having to touch biometric scanners. The bank used its official social media accounts to introduce this function.

The Verification Process Based on Aadhaar

In order for face authentication to work, the customer's live facial image and the image that was saved against their Aadhaar number at the time of enrollment must match exactly. A successful match verifies the holder's identification and is regarded as a consent-based method of electronic know your customer (e-KYC) by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Target Recipients

The facility was put in place to improve accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities, many of whom have trouble using fingerprint sensors or visiting branches. IPPB seeks to lower barriers for these individuals by eliminating the necessity of physical contact, while simultaneously offering a substitute in cases when fingerprints are worn or momentarily unavailable.

Delivery to Your Door Through the Postal Network

By utilizing more than 150,000 post offices nationwide, the banking at home service will handle account opening, cash transactions, bill payment, insurance purchases, and Aadhaar-enabled withdrawals from other banks.

You can use IPPB's postal network to request any face-authenticated service. Consumers can contact a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), submit a request to their local postman, or phone the helpline (155299 or 033-22029000). Delivery slots will be available two to ten days following the order, and service windows will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Status of Early Adoption and Compliance

The implementation is in line with broader financial sector trends that favor contactless biometric technologies as an addition to the Aadhaar system's already-accepted fingerprint and iris modalities.

There is currently no fee associated with IPPB's doorstep banking requests. Additionally, the bank waives fees for home-based new account openings. If customers require more information, they can visit the IPPB website or call the customer service numbers mentioned above.
