Indigo Flight Returns to Delhi Amid Drone Sightings in Punjab and Jammu

Indigo cancels flights due to drone activity in Punjab and Jammu; air defense activated after drone sightings near military areas.

Indigo Flight Returns to Delhi Amid Drone Sightings in Punjab and Jammu

An Indigo flight traveling to Amritsar in Punjab was rerouted back to Delhi on Monday after receiving reports of drones in some areas of Punjab and Jammu. This was a precautionary step for the safety of passengers.

Soon thereafter, the airline canceled all flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot for May 13, 2025. The airline stressed the importance of passenger safety in their decision.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Indigo said:

“In view of the current developments and with your safety being of prime concern to us, operations to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot stand cancelled for 13th May 2025.”

They went on to say, “We realize how this might cause disruption in your travel plans, and apologize for the inconvenience. Our teams are closely following the situation and will keep you immediately posted about any more developments. If you are traveling, please check your flight status on our website or app before departing for the airport. If you require support, we’re but a message or call away, and always here to assist.”

Drone Sightings and Blasts in Strategic Locations

Incidents were reported where drones were seen over Samba region of Jammu and Jalandhar, Punjab, shortly after the address to the nation by Prime Minister Modi. Explosions were witnessed near Suranasi village in Jalandhar, while Dasuya region of Hoshiarpur also saw blasts.

In addition, approximately 15 drones were spotted near the Northern Command and Air Force Station at Udhampur, where air defense systems were made operational to intercept the aerial objects. A blackout was immediately imposed in the affected areas, including Pathankot and Vaishno Devi Bhawan.
