IndiGo Cancels Flights to Key Cities Amid Drone Sightings and Security Concerns

IndiGo Cancels Flights to Key Cities Amid Drone Sightings and Security Concerns

Budget carrier IndiGo has cancelled all flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, due to increased security warnings and drone sightings.

The airline posted an official message on social media platform X, saying:
“In view of the recent situation and for your safety being our top priority, flights from/to Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot stand cancelled on 13th May 2025.”

IndiGo further added, “We get how this can disrupt your travel plans, and apologize for the inconvenience caused. Our teams are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you informed at the earliest about further updates. Please check your flight status on our website or app before you go to the airport. We’re just a message or call away if you need help. and forever there to help.”

Flight Returns Mid-Air Amid Drone Alerts

The decision comes after an IndiGo flight bound for Amritsar returned to Delhi on Monday as a precaution following drone sightings in Punjab and Jammu.

Increased Drone Activity After PM’s Address

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address regarding Operation Sindoor, Indian forces intercepted 10–12 drones in Jammu’s Samba. Additionally, 15 drones were seen above Udhampur’s Northern Command and Air Force Station, and five more near Katra.

Authorities Urge Calm Amid Tensions

In Jalandhar, a drone was downed near the Mand village. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal appealed to people to stay calm: “I request you to please be calm and also do not burst crackers. Strict police action will be taken against such people who will attempt to cause panic.”

In the meantime, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) reopened 32 airports of the north and west, after a temporary closure until May 15 because of the tension with Pakistan.
