India’s Champions Touch Down: Team Arrives Home After T20 World Cup Victory

The victorious Team India led by Rohit Sharma has arrived back in New Delhi after departing from Barbados following Hurricane Beryl. Their return marks the culmination of a successful campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean, where they clinched the title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Yesterday, the Indian team flew to Delhi on a charter flight from Grantley Adams International Airport after being stranded for three days due to a category-four hurricane in Barbados. The special charter flight, named Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC) in honor of the winning squad, departed the Caribbean island at 4:50 a.m. local time and arrived in the national capital around 6:20 a.m. (IST) today.

The BCCI organized the charter flight for the Indian squad, support staff, players’ families, board officials, and members of the media who were delayed in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla disclosed that Indian journalists stranded in Barbados also flew back on the same flight, accompanied by BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.

Following a warm reception, Rohit Sharma’s Team India is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11 am at his residence. After a breakfast session, the team will depart for Mumbai, where they will participate in an open bus road show from Nariman Point later in the evening. A felicitation event at Wankhede Stadium will conclude the day’s celebrations after the victory parade.
