Indian Railways To Launch QR Code Payment For Cash-Free Travel

The Indian Railways is set to revolutionize ticketing with the launch of a new QR code payment system, marking a significant step towards cashless travel. This initiative is part of a broader modernization effort aimed at streamlining railway services and eliminating the need for cash transactions at all stations.

Currently, passengers often face difficulties at ticket counters due to the absence of online payment options, which can lead to inconvenience when cash is unavailable. To tackle this issue, the Malda Division of Eastern Railways is leading the charge in implementing a cashless ticketing system across its stations.

Shiv Prasad, the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of the Malda Division, highlighted that the new dynamic QR code devices at ticket counters will simplify payment processes. These devices will generate payment requests sent directly to passengers’ mobile phones, allowing them to complete transactions electronically. This development is expected to address common problems like disputes over change and improve operational efficiency by minimizing cash handling.

The introduction of this system is anticipated to cater particularly to younger passengers who favor digital payment methods and often do not carry cash. By enhancing passenger convenience and streamlining ticketing operations, the railway system aims to provide a more efficient and modern travel experience.
