Indian Navy Chief To Visit Bangladesh From July 1 To 4, Focuses On Strengthening Defense Ties

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi will undertake an official visit to Bangladesh from July 1 to 4. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral defense ties and explore new opportunities for naval cooperation, according to a Navy press release.

During his stay, Admiral Tripathi will engage in bilateral talks with his counterpart, Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Bangladesh Navy, in Dhaka. He will also review the Passing Out Parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA) in Chittagong on July 4. Additionally, he will meet with the chiefs of the Bangladesh Army and Air Force, the Principal Staff Officer Armed Forces Division, and senior government officials.

Admiral Tripathi will address participants at the National Defence College in Dhaka and visit several key defense facilities. Naval cooperation between India and Bangladesh has historically been strong, encompassing operational interactions through port calls and bilateral naval exercises, along with capacity building, capability enhancement, and training initiatives. His visit will further solidify the strong bonds of friendship between the two navies.

India and Bangladesh share deep historical, linguistic, and cultural ties, with bilateral relations rooted in sovereignty, equality, trust, and mutual understanding, extending beyond strategic partnership. The defense sector has seen significant bilateral exchanges in 2023, including visits by the Chiefs of the Indian and Bangladesh Armed Forces.

In 2023, the Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff visited New Delhi from April 27-29, and the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army visited Bangladesh in June as the presiding officer for the Passing Out Parade at the Bangladesh Military Academy. The 5th Annual Defence Dialogue and 4th Tri-Services Talks were held on August 20-21 in Dhaka to review ongoing defense cooperation comprehensively. The Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff visited India from September 12-15, 2023, as part of a series of exchanges under defense cooperation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
