Indian Idol 12 winner Pawandeep Rajan had a serious car accident early on Sunday morning in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and was left with multiple injuries, including fractured legs and a head injury, according to the police.
The accident took place around 2:30 AM near the Chopla Chauraha overbridge, under the jurisdiction of the Gajraula police station. Rajan, 28, was traveling to Noida for a programme along with his friend Ajay Mehra and their driver Rahul Singh when their MG Hector SUV collided with a parked Eicher Canter truck on the highway.
Driver Fatigue Blamed for Collision
Early probe indicates that Rahul Singh, who was driving, slept at the wheel, resulting in the loss of control and the resultant crash. “Preliminary findings pointing to driver fatigue as the primary cause of the accident,” Gajraula SHO Akhilesh Pradhan said.
All three occupants were seriously injured. Witnesses described a crowd quickly congregating on the spot and assisting police in alerting them. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and took the injured to a nearby government hospital for on-the-spot medical care.
Due to the seriousness of injuries, Rajan and others were subsequently transferred to the ICU of a private hospital, and then to Fortis Hospital in Noida for further treatment.
Pawandeep Receives Treatment at Fortis Noida
Meanwhile, HT has learned that Pawandeep Rajan is currently being monitored by the orthopaedics team at Fortis Hospital, Noida, following the road traffic accident. According to the official update from the hospital, he is conscious and stable
“As part of his treatment plan, he will be undergoing a series of sequential surgeries. “Our clinical team is closely monitoring his condition and providing all necessary medical care,” the hospital stated.
A video that went viral on Instagram has Rajan lying unconscious on a hospital bed, with doctors attending to him. The video depicts visible wounds on his left foot and right arm. His fans filled the comments section with well-wishes, “get well soon” messages.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shwetabh Bhaskar affirmed that both the SUV and the truck involved have been impounded for forensic examination. “Action will be initiated once we obtain a formal written complaint,” he added.
A Star Rooted in Folk and Reality Show Fame
Pawandeep, a son of Champawat, Uttarakhand, belongs to Kumaoni traditional folk artists family. His success in Indian Idol Season 12 made him overnight sensation at a national level. Previously, he won The Voice India in the year 2015 as Team Shaan contestant and then came back as mentor in Superstar Singer 2.
Who is famous for hits such as Yaad, Fursat, Mazoor Dil, Tere Liye, and O Saiyyonii, Pawandeep is a skilled composer as well. “Composing allows me to collaborate with other artists, and I learn through the process,” he said in an interview with Hindustan Times.
