The Indian Army confirmed that the night passed “largely peacefully” across Jammu and Kashmir and along the International Border. This calm came just two days after India and Pakistan agreed to stop military actions.
Intense Firing Before Peace
For four straight days, Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged heavy fire. This followed a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. That attack had killed 26 civilians and raised tensions sharply.
Ceasefire Brings First Peaceful Night. On Saturday evening, both countries agreed to a ceasefire. The decision covered land, air, and sea. Army sources told NDTV, “The night emained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days.”
Drone Activity Breaks Trust
Despite the agreement, drones appeared shortly after the ceasefire. Security forces spotted and intercepted them in several areas. These included Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Gujarat.
Late Saturday night, India said Pakistan had already violated the ceasefire. Indian forces responded strongly. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “Over the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take very, very serious notice of these violations.”
India Tells Pakistan to Act Responsibly
Misri urged Pakistan to take firm action. He warned that India would not tolerate repeated violations. He added, “The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations along the International Border as well as the Line of Control.”
Operation Sindoor Launched in Response
Earlier, India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. This came after investigators found strong links between the Pahalgam attack and terror groups in Pakistan. Indian forces struck nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in a swift operation.
