The total active cases have reduced to 3,919, marking a decrease of 83 since Monday morning. A total of 32,107 tests were conducted on January 8, as reported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), contributing to the ongoing efforts in monitoring and controlling the spread of the virus.

The emergence of the COVID-19 JN.1 subvariant has also been monitored, with a total of 819 cases reported from 12 states till January 8. Maharashtra leads with 250 cases, followed by Karnataka with 199, Kerala with 148, Goa with 49, Gujarat with 36, Andhra Pradesh with 30, Rajasthan with 30, Tamil Nadu with 26, Telangana with 26, Delhi with 21, Odisha with three, and Haryana with one case.
