India Leads Global AI Adoption, Surpassing US & UK: Survey

India has emerged as the leader in AI (artificial intelligence) adoption, according to a recent survey by Statista Consumer Insights, surpassing major Western nations like the United States and the United Kingdom.

The survey reveals that 41% of Indians use AI tools as part of their daily routine, positioning India ahead of countries like Brazil (33%), Mexico (24%), and Germany (21%). The United States ranked last, with just 20% of Americans reporting daily AI use.

This survey, conducted between August and September 2024, interviewed 1,250 respondents aged 18-64 across multiple countries, showcasing the growing importance of AI in daily life.

Why India Leads in AI Adoption

India’s lead in AI usage can be attributed to its rapid technological growth and the increasing penetration of AI-powered tools in both public and private sectors. From banking to telecom and government services, AI is driving modernization across the country. A Deloitte report highlighted that AI-first systems are reshaping these core industries, improving data sharing and user experiences.

The growing adoption of multimodal AI models by Indian businesses is another factor contributing to the surge in daily AI usage. These models provide faster, more efficient, and targeted solutions to consumers, further accelerating AI integration into everyday life.

The Global AI Landscape

Despite India’s lead, AI adoption is on the rise globally. A Gartner report projects that AI augmentation will generate a staggering $3.7 trillion in business value by 2024, saving 8.1 billion hours of worker productivity worldwide.

In addition, Elsevier’s Insights revealed that 67% of Indian researchers anticipate adopting AI tools within the next 2-5 years, signaling continued growth in AI usage across all sectors, especially in research and development.

AI’s Role in India’s Modernization

The integration of AI is a major part of India’s technological modernization. According to Deloitte’s Tech Trends – India Perspective report, AI is playing a key role in transforming core government, banking, and telecom systems. While these innovations are driving efficiency, they also pose significant challenges in terms of scalability, security, and long-term sustainability.

India’s leadership in AI adoption is a clear sign of the country’s embrace of new technology, shaping its future both in business and daily life. As AI continues to transform sectors, India’s position as a global leader in AI usage is likely to grow even further.
