Israel has expressed strong solidarity with India’s self-defence rights in the face of heightened cross-border terrorism. In an exclusive interview to Firstpost, Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar also appealed to the international community to act more forcefully against terrorism. He appealed to countries to ostracize radical actors, limit access to lethal weapons, and stem the proliferation of extremist content on the internet.
These are the comments made by India as it steps up counter-terror raids, notably through Operation Sindoor. Reuven Azar’s support resonates with India’s changing defence philosophy, with the pre-emptive and surgical military strikes taking centre stage now.
Israel Supports India’s Position on Terror
Reiterating India’s right of retaliation, Ambassador Reuven Azar stated that terrorism could not be allowed to go unpunished. For him, remaining neutral in the face of such a threat was not acceptable. Nations, he contended, must remain with democratic nations like India that face constant terror threats.
In doing so, Reuven Azar highlighted the intensifying diplomatic and strategic ties between Israel and India. Both countries have endured ceaseless terror attacks over the years. In retaliation, they have adopted robust security measures to safeguard their citizens and national interests.
World Community Needs to Act
Aside from bilateral assistance, Reuven Azar called for collective global action. He underscored that governments need to do more—by targeting terrorists, stemming the proliferation of lethal arms, and tackling extremist ideologies.
To do this, he stated, nations need to tighten the lid on the spread of extremist narratives on digital and electronic media. In addition, he urged to isolate radical groups while at the same time supporting moderate voices in politics and society.
Evidently, Reuven Azar’s call for action leaves no space for passive diplomacy. With terrorism changing, so must the world’s response.
Shared Playbook: India and Israel
India and Israel are not merely allies by word—backed by close cooperation on security fronts. Sharing intelligence, counter-terror operations, and collaborative developments in spyware technology have all strengthened this bond.
Both nations increasingly resort to drones, precision strikes, and cyber capabilities to neutralize emerging threats. It is part of a larger geopolitical trend: like-minded democracies are combining assets to thwart destabilising elements before they threaten.
Diplomacy Must Align with Defence
Reuven Azar’s remarks provide an additional critical layer to India’s wider defence strategy. Although military strength is important, diplomatic support from reliable friends enhances the credibility of India’s actions on the international stage.
Strategic sponsorships—like Israel’s—allow India to justify its anti-terror activities as legitimate and justifiable under international standards. With civilian attacks mounting worldwide, diplomatic momentum might be shifting towards speedy, surgical defence operations.
Therefore, India needs not only to act forcefully on the battlefield but also to set the global agenda. Doing so, it can secure global acceptance of its right to protect its citizens—and deter future aggression.
