India Calls OIC Remarks on Pakistan, Pahalgam Attack ‘Politically Motivated’

India on Tuesday strongly criticized the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its recent statement on the horrific Pahalgam terror attack, calling it “absurd” and “politically motivated.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also accused Pakistan of using the OIC to advance an anti-India agenda.

Attack Claimed Lives of Innocent Civilians

The MEA issued a sharp response after the OIC Group in New York released a statement that appeared to challenge India’s account of the deadly attack. The attack, which occurred on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 civilians, most of whom were tourists. The terrorist assault shocked the nation and drew widespread condemnation from Indian authorities.

The OIC’s statement, issued at Pakistan’s behest, questioned the circumstances surrounding the attack and did not recognize the cross-border nature of the terrorism. The Indian government was quick to reject this stance, asserting that the OIC’s remarks were misleading and harmful.

MEA Calls Out Politically Motivated Narrative

“The OIC statement, issued at the behest of Pakistan, is absurd in refusing to recognize the facts of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages. This is yet another attempt by Pakistan, a country that has long engaged in cross-border terrorism, to manipulate and misguide the OIC Group to issue a self-serving statement. We reject the OIC’s interference in matters that are internal to India,” the MEA statement read.

India Urges Global Focus on Counterterrorism

The Indian government also emphasized the importance of holding Pakistan accountable for its role in fostering terrorism in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs made it clear that such statements from international groups only served to undermine the fight against terrorism.

India has repeatedly called for international cooperation to combat terrorism, stressing that organizations like the OIC should focus on addressing the core issue of cross-border terrorism instead of politicizing attacks for diplomatic purposes.
