Meanwhile, the DMK had stayed away from the meeting that was attended by the Congress.
The Congress decision to support the actor turned politician Joseph C Vijay-led TVK in Tamil Nadu, which had fell short of majority in the recently concluded assembly polls, accusing the grand old party of the backstabbing and betrayal.
The Congress had contested the Tamil Nadu assembly polls in alliance with the DMK led Secular Progressive Alliance. However, despite an aggressive campaign to retain power, the SPA was routed in the polls and Vijay’s TVK emerged as the single largest party with the Congress winning only five seats.
