Kashmiri Man Attempts To Enter Pakistan Via Gujarat Border: Know What Happened
Assam Police have heightened security along the India-Bangladesh border to prevent illegal entry into the state due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. Director General of Police (DGP) G.P. Singh confirmed that the Centre has mandated strict measures to ensure that no unauthorized individuals cross the border into India.
“The Border Security Force (BSF) serves as the primary defense along the border, while the Assam Police provides additional security. We are maintaining high alert status,” Singh said during a book launch event on Saturday. He noted that Indian passport holders, primarily students and traders, will be permitted entry into India if their documents are verified as valid. Similarly, Bangladeshi citizens will be escorted back to their country following verification of their passports and visas.
Singh assured that the Assam Police, in coordination with the BSF, are conducting joint patrols to secure the border and prevent unauthorized crossings. He also emphasized that no illegal entries have been reported so far.
Regarding the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Singh highlighted that comprehensive security measures are in place. “Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been instructed to enhance security at parade grounds across the state,” he added.
The DGP recently conducted a security review in Upper Assam’s districts amid reports of ULFA (I) militants operating near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. He discussed the situation with police, military, and paramilitary forces, stressing the need to neutralize the militant group.
Singh appealed to ULFA (I) to refrain from violence and disruptiveness, especially as the state experiences economic growth due to increased investments. He extended an invitation to the militant group for dialogue, stating that both central and state governments are open to negotiations.
The enhanced security measures reflect the state’s commitment to maintaining order and safety amid the current regional challenges.
