In Himachal, 12 winning candidates have serious criminal cases against them

Out of the 68 winning candidates in the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, 28 (41%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves, and 12 (18%) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves, as per a report by the Himachal Pradesh Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The findings were based on the self-sworn affidavits of all winning candidates in the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.
One winning candidate has declared a case related to murder (IPC Section-302) against himself, and one winning candidate has declared cases related to crimes against women.
23 (58%) out of 40 winning candidates from the INC and 5 (20%) out of 25 winning candidates from the BJP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. Nine (23%) out of 40 winning candidates from the INC and three (12%) out of 25 winning candidates from the BJP have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. Out of the 68 winning candidates analysed, 63 (93%) are crorepatis. 38 (95%) of the 40 INC candidates, 22 (88%) of the 25 BJP candidates, and 3 (100%) independent winning candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.
The average of assets per winning candidates in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022 is Rs 13.26 crore. The average of assets per MLA in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 was Rs 8.88 crore. The average assets per winning candidate for 40 INC winning candidates is Rs 14.25 crore, 25 BJP winning candidates is Rs 12.42 crore and 3 Independent winning candidates have average assets worth Rs 7.09 crore.
16 (24%) winning candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between the 10th and 12th grade, while 52 (76%) winning candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate and above. 29 (43%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years, while 38 (56%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years, and 1 winning candidate has declared his age to be 82 years.
Out of 68 winning candidates analysed, Only 1 winner candidate is a woman. In 2017, out of 68 MLAs, 4 (6%) were women.
