In Case Of War With Pakistan: Govt’s Must-Do And Must-Not-Do Advisory For Citizens

As tensions rise between India and Pakistan following the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the Indian government has taken significant diplomatic and economic measures against Pakistan. In response to the escalating situation, the Union Home Ministry has instructed all states to begin mock drills to prepare for any war-like scenario.

In line with these instructions, the police and district administration in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district have issued a public advisory outlining essential do’s and don’ts to ensure public safety and readiness.

Stay Calm, Avoid Panic

The advisory urges citizens not to panic and stresses the importance of staying calm in the face of uncertainty. “Don’t panic: Understand the gravity of the situation, but stay calm. Panic increases the chances of making wrong decisions,” it states.

People have been advised to rely solely on verified information released by government agencies and to avoid spreading or believing unconfirmed reports circulating on social media. “Trust only official information issued by the government and the district administration,” the advisory reads.

Take Shelter in Safe Spaces

The administration recommends that people stay indoors unless specifically instructed to evacuate. Residents should avoid windows and doors, and if possible, take shelter in nearby bunkers or underground facilities. In their absence, the advisory suggests using an interior room with minimal exposure to external walls.

Emergency Supplies and Precautions

The district has encouraged families to prepare an emergency kit including:

  • Water (minimum three-day supply)

  • Dry food items

  • First aid supplies

  • Flashlights and radios with extra batteries

  • Important documents in waterproof bags

  • Cash, masks, warm clothing, and hygiene products

Residents who rely on daily medication have been advised to stock up sufficiently in advance.

Electricity and Gas Safety

The administration warns citizens to shut off all electrical appliances and gas connections in case of aerial strikes or any other imminent danger.

Vigilance and Security Measures

“Report suspicious activities: If you see any suspicious person or activity, immediately inform the local police or administration,” the advisory states. Citizens have also been told to avoid touching unidentified objects and to keep lights dim at night to reduce visibility from outside.

Community Support Is Crucial

The advisory emphasizes the importance of unity during such crises. Residents are encouraged to help neighbors—especially the elderly, children, and those in need—and participate in any local community safety efforts.

Travel Restrictions

Citizens have been advised to avoid all non-essential travel. “If travelling is unavoidable, know your route, use safe routes and be cautious,” the district administration said.

The central government has reiterated that while the nation remains on high alert, people must remain patient, vigilant, and cooperative. The message is clear: preparedness and calmness are essential to withstand any adversity.
