IMD Predicts Rain Today: Thunderstorms After Dust Storm Devastates Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that on Saturday, there will be a wet period, thunderstorms, and lightning in many regions of the nation. IMD’s X announcement states that for the next three hours, mild to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are predicted for Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan.

Furthermore, similar weather is predicted by IMD for west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, south Punjab, and Delhi. For the next three hours, the weather bureau predicts light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in these areas as well as in Meghalaya, south-east Arunachal Pradesh, south-east Assam, Manipur, south interior Karnataka, and Kerala.

Delhi Police reported receiving 152 calls related to tree uprooting, 55 calls concerning building damage, and 202 calls regarding power disruption on Friday night. Following days of high temperatures, Delhi-NCR experienced a significant thunderstorm, strong winds, and rainfall on Friday evening, leading to traffic disruptions and flight diversions in the national capital.

Adjacent areas such as Noida and Ghaziabad also encountered sudden and intense dust storms. According to Delhi airport sources, nine flights destined for the city were diverted to Jaipur due to adverse weather conditions. Gusty winds caused trees to fall on roads, affecting traffic in Delhi and surrounding areas. Furthermore, in Sector 58 of Noida, several cars sustained damage after a structure used for building repairs collapsed onto the vehicles.
