IMD Data: India Faces Prolonged And Deadly Summer

Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) shows 14 out of 36 subdivisions experiencing more than 15 heat wave days between March 1 and June 9, marking one of the country’s lengthiest and most intense summers.

According to subdivision-wise data from IMD, heat wave conditions have been absent only in the northeastern states, coastal Karnataka, and certain areas of Marathwada during this period. The highest number of heat wave days has been recorded in Odisha (27), with Rajasthan (23), Gangetic West Bengal (21), Haryana (20), Chandigarh (20), Delhi (20), and West Uttar Pradesh (20) following closely behind.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) cautioned on Thursday that heatwave conditions are expected to continue in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Chandigarh for the next 4 to 5 days, “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions likely to continue over northern parts of India during next 4-5 days.”
