Kashmir: In a significant and emotional event, the 8th Muharram procession took place in central Srinagar on Monday morning, following traditional routes.
According to The Daily Guardian (TDG), thousands of mourners dressed in black assembled to honor the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
The administration granted permission for the procession to follow its customary routes.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar Birdi, who was present and distributing water to the mourners, informed reporters that the procession was proceeding peacefully, with excellent cooperation from the participants.
He mentioned that volunteers were working alongside the police to ensure the procession remained orderly.
Birdi emphasized that permission for the procession was granted under specific conditions to maintain a peaceful environment.
Regarding the 10th Muharram procession, he stated that the district administration is currently evaluating the situation and will make a decision after considering all relevant factors.
