The Congress party on Monday launched a sharp attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after a video went viral allegedly showing him pulling down the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor during an official event in Patna.

Congress Shares Video, Calls Act Shameless

Sharing the clip on X, the Congress accused the Chief Minister of crossing all limits of decency. The party wrote, “This is Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Look at his shamelessness, a female doctor had come to collect her appointment letter, and Nitish Kumar pulled off her hijab.”

Questions Raised on Women’s Safety in Bihar

The party said the incident raises serious concerns about the safety and dignity of women in the state. In its post, the Congress added, “A man holding the highest office in Bihar is openly indulging in such a vile act. Think about it, how safe will women be in the state?”

Congress Demands Chief Minister’s Resignation

Terming the alleged act “disgusting” and “unforgivable,” the Congress demanded Nitish Kumar’s immediate resignation. The party stated, “Nitish Kumar should immediately resign for this disgusting behaviour. This vileness is unforgivable.”

Incident Took Place at Official Appointment Ceremony

According to reports, the incident occurred during an appointment letter distribution ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence. Newly recruited AYUSH doctors were being formally handed over their appointment letters at the event.

Woman Doctor Identified as Nusrat Parveen

The woman seen in the viral video has been identified as Nusrat Parveen. In the footage, Nitish Kumar is seen speaking to her about her headscarf after giving her the appointment letter and allegedly instructing her to remove it. Before she could respond, he is seen pulling down her hijab himself.

Shocked Reaction and Laughter in Background

The woman appeared visibly shocked by the Chief Minister’s action. Meanwhile, several people present at the event were seen laughing in the background, which further fuelled outrage over the incident.

Over 1,200 AYUSH Doctors Received Appointment Letters

Reports said that a total of 1,283 AYUSH doctors were issued appointment letters during the programme. This included 685 Ayurvedic doctors, 393 Homeopathic practitioners, and 205 Unani doctors.
