Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday, leading to waterlogging and severe traffic congestion in multiple areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 3.6 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 8:30 pm, accompanied by thunderstorms.

Traffic Disruptions and Roadblocks

As a result of the downpour, the Bengaluru Traffic Police issued continuous updates, warning commuters about diversions due to flooded roads. Notably, heavy water accumulation at Hunsmaranahalli created massive traffic jams, affecting routes toward the International Airport. Fortunately, authorities acted swiftly and cleared the water, restoring traffic movement.

Fallen Trees and a Tragic Incidaent

Meanwhile, strong winds uprooted trees and broke branches across the city. Unfortunately, a three-year-old girl lost her life when a tree fell on her during the storm. ANI, citing Karnataka’s Civil Defence, reported that around 30 trees had collapsed in different areas.

Flights Diverted Due to Bad Weather

Because of the severe weather conditions, airlines had to divert 19 flights to alternative destinations. Specifically, ten flights were rerouted to Chennai. Among the affected flights, 11 belonged to IndiGo, four to Air India Express, two to Akasa, and two to Air India.

Power Cuts and Hailstorms Add to the Chaos

In addition to the heavy rain, parts of the city faced temporary electricity disruptions. Moreover, hailstorms hit Hosakote in Bengaluru Rural district. A social media user even shared a viral video showing hailstones pelting down in the area.

Weather Forecast and Traffic Alerts

Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted light rain and thundershowers on March 22 and 23. Furthermore, the Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an advisory about ongoing congestion on the Nagawara-Hebbal stretch due to waterlogging.

Additionally, the IMD forecasted light showers for several other districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar. Similarly, areas such as Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, and Raichur might also experience isolated rainfall.
