‘Recovering well,’ says neurologist after brain surgery of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who underwent emergency brain surgery at a private hospital on Wednesday, is said to be “recovering well,” as per medical professionals.

Dr. Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant Neurologist at Apollo Hospitals, conveyed in a video statement that Sadhguru had been enduring severe headaches for the past four weeks. Despite his declining health, Sadhguru remained committed to his obligations and activities, including overseeing the nightlong MahaShivRatri celebrations on March 8.

Following a week of intensified headaches, Dr. Suri recommended an urgent MRI scan, revealing a significant brain hemorrhage.

Despite the advice for immediate hospitalization, Sadhguru chose to honor his commitments, expressing to Dr. Suri, “I have never missed a single meeting in my last 40 years.”

However, by March 17, Sadhguru’s neurological condition had deteriorated.

Consequently, brain surgery was performed by a team consisting of Dr. Vinit Suri, Dr. Pranav Kumar, Dr. Sudheer Tyagi, and Dr. S. Chatterjee.

Dr. Suri remarked, “Sadhguru has shown consistent improvement, with his brain, body, and vital signs returning to normal levels. His recovery has exceeded expectations.”

He acknowledged that Sadhguru’s recuperation is credited not only to the medical interventions by Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals but also to his own healing efforts.

On Wednesday, Sadhguru shared a video on his Instagram account from his hospital bed, humorously stating, “The Apollo hospital neurosurgeons cut through my skull to try and find something but found nothing — totally empty. So they gave up and patched it up. Here I am in Delhi with the patched-up skull but no damaged brain.”

The spiritual leader was also addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who wished him a quick recovery. Modi posted on X, saying, “Spoke to @SadhguruJV Ji and wished him good health and a speedy recovery.” In a swift response to Modi’s letter, Sadhguru expressed his “overwhelming” worry for the prime leader.

Meanwhile, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut took to her official Twitter handle and shared, “I am numb since I got to know about it from Radhe, Sadguru ji not only hosted massive Shivratri event in that excruciating pain but also refused to skip any meeting or summit… Get well soon, we are nothing without you @SadhguruJV #Sadhguru.”
