September 28, Srinagar: A fierce encounter has broken out between militants and security forces in the Adigam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, triggering heightened tension in the region. The confrontation, which erupted on Saturday, saw heavy exchange of fire as militants opened fire on a joint team of Police and army personnel conducting a cordon and search operation.
The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the ongoing operation on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Encounter has started at Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.” The post underscored the gravity of the situation as security forces closed in on the militants.
According to reports, the forces had launched the operation based on intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. As they approached the suspected location, the militants, who were well-armed, opened fire, resulting in a heavy gunfight.
The operation continues as reinforcements have been called in to secure the area, with additional security measures in place to prevent the militants’ escape. Further updates are awaited as the encounter rages on.
