A concerning incident has been reported from Tsoont Koel stream near Barbar Shah area of Srinagar, where thousands of fish have been found dead, attributed to a combination of oxygen depletion and pollution.
An official from the fisheries department highlighted that the primary cause of the fish mortality is the reduced oxygen levels in the water bodies, a common occurrence during the summer months exacerbated by high temperatures and humidity. “Pollution from waste disposal and contaminants from nearby areas has further deteriorated water quality, intensifying the oxygen depletion and impacting aquatic life,” the official explained.
Local residents expressed dismay over the incident, emphasizing its broader implications for the local ecosystem and the livelihoods dependent on fishing. “This incident not only affects the fish population but also disrupts the delicate ecological balance and threatens our means of sustenance,” remarked a concerned local resident.
