A final-year MBBS student from Goa was arrested for allegedly entering the girls’ hostel of the neighbouring Dental College and trying to video-graph female students while they were taking a bath, a police official stated on Sunday.
The accused belongs to Goa Medical College and Hospital and has been arrested for trespassing and invasion of privacy, PTI added.
Incident Details, Police Statement around MBBS Student Case
As per Agassaim police, the crime was committed on May 19, between 9:45 PM and 10:00 PM, when the accused broke into the ground floor building of the girls’ hostel at Bambolim near Panaji.
“The accused trespassed into the premises of the girls’ hostel building on the ground floor and attempted to observe and record videos using his mobile phone of female students while they were bathing,” the official said.
Public Outrage Over Invasion of Privacy
The secret video recording within the women’s bathing area has generated outrage and dismay among students and teachers alike.
The two colleges Goa Medical College and Goa Dental College have a common boundary that was allegedly crossed by the accused to reach the hostel.
Separate Incident: Third-Year MBBS Student Raped in Maharashtra
While in another independent incident, a third-year MBBS student was reportedly raped in Maharashtra’s Sangli district by her two classmates and one of their friends after spiking her drink, police informed on Friday.
The three accused individuals, who hail from Pune, Solapur and Sangli, have been arrested by police. They have been remanded in police custody till May 27, said an official.
Victim’s Account and Police Action
The 22-year-old medical student was targeted allegedly on May 18, when she and the accused had agreed to see a film in a cinema hall at 10 pm. Prior to that, the accused had taken her to a flat for a short break.
The accused, who were drunk, had offered her a spiced drink. She felt dizzy after drinking, the survivor informed the police.
The three people, between the ages of 20 and 22, then supposedly sexually assaulted her and warned her against revealing it, threatening her with severe punishment, the official added.
