National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday, expressed hope that
the NC-Congress alliance will succeed in the upcoming Assembly elections and be able to
form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Abdullah made these remarks while speaking to reporters in South Kashmir’s Pampore,
where the party’s candidate and former MP, Justice (retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, filed his
nomination papers. He emphasised that if their intentions are sincere, divine assistance will
guide them and help the region emerge from its current tumultuous situation.
Addressing a question regarding Article 370, which was abrogated by the BJP-led
government on August 5, 2019, Dr Abdullah vowed to restore it. “Had we ever thought India would achieve independence from the British? No. But it happened. Similarly, those who took away Article 370 had been working on it for the last 70 years. We are confident we will get it back, even if it takes 100 years,” he stated.
Dr Abdullah also offered prayers for Justice (retd.) Hasnain Masoodi’s success in the
upcoming Assembly elections, scheduled to begin on September 18.
The Election Commission of India recently announced a three-phase election schedule for
Jammu and Kashmir. According to the schedule, polls will take place on September 18,
September 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes set for October 4.
