Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad became emotional during a press conference today, vowing to resign from the Lok Sabha if justice is not served for the 22-year-old Dalit woman found raped and murdered near Ayodhya. Ayodhya is included in the Faizabad parliamentary constituency.

A viral video from the press conference captures the MP in tears as others try to console him. “Let me go to Delhi. I will raise this issue in the Lok Sabha before (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi. I will leave the Lok Sabha if we do not get justice. We are failing to safeguard our daughters. How will history view us? How did this occur to our daughter? ” he expressed, visibly distressed. He also called out, “Maryada Purushottam Ram, Mother Sita, where are you? ” Despite his numerous statements about resigning, those nearby encouraged him to stay and fight for justice.

The heinous crime took place just days before the bypoll in Ayodhya’s Milkipur Assembly constituency, which Mr. Prasad stepped down from after securing a Lok Sabha seat. The election campaign is being led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the BJP and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav for the SP. The horrific rape and murder are expected to be a major issue in the upcoming February 5 election.

The body of the 22-year-old victim was located in a canal in the Ayodhya district yesterday. She had left for a religious gathering on Thursday night but did not return. Her family claimed that when they sought help from the police, they were told to search for her themselves.

According to the family, the body was found unclothed, with missing eyes and severe injuries. The limbs were tied with ropes, and there were several signs of violence. Authorities have launched an investigation. Circle Officer Ashutosh Tiwari confirmed that a missing person report was lodged after the family reported her absence on Friday.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further actions will be determined based on its findings. *”Once we get the post-mortem results, we will take appropriate action, “Tiwari told PTI. A relative of the victim commented, *”She had gone to Bhagavad Katha but did not return home. We found her body in the canal, naked and tied with ropes. Her bones were broken. She has been violently murdered. “
