Experience the light within

On November 4th, people around the world will celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights that celebrates the victory of good over evil, of light over darkness. Just as the outer lights, we all have the inner light that is always present within.

Living at the level of our physical senses, we take ourselves to be the body and we focus our attention on the attractions and distractions of the outer world — a world of impermanence, where lasting happiness and peace are unattainable. It is when we withdraw our attention from the outer world and focus it on the inner spiritual worlds that we discover true happiness.

Hidden within each of us is a spark of the divine. There are vistas after vistas of divine sights and sounds, infinite wisdom and the all-embracing love of God. The Light of Divine glows continually. This flame illumines our heart and mind, with answers to questions that have mystified humankind for ages.

It is not a gift reserved for a few; it is available to everyone. We have to look within to bask in the eternal sunshine. Through meditation, we can see and hear the light and sound current within.

As we embark on the inner journey through meditation, we connect with the Light of God and are imbued in divine love. We awaken to our true nature as spirit and having experienced God’s love, we become fearless in the face of all difficulties. Life takes on new meaning as we learn to live our lives in a manner that brings us peace and that brings us closer to God. We all carry this light within and it is through meditation that we can experience it and share it with others.

Just as we light a fire to warm us without, we need to ignite the spiritual fire within. Once that spark is lit, we need to tend it to keep it glowing. As it illumines us within, we shine forth our eternal light with a luminosity that radiates to all we meet until the entire world is flooded with the Light of the Divine and is bathed in eternal love, peace and bliss.
