Excise Case: Sanjay Singh’s judicial custody is extended by a Delhi court until November 10 and private treatment is permitted

In relation to the alleged liquor scam case, the Rouse Avenue Court on Friday extended Sanjay Singh, the MP and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party,’sjudicialcustody until November 10 of the following month. In this case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently placed him under arrest. Singh had filed a request with the jail administration asking for guidelines to guarantee proper medical care and to permit him to keep receiving treatment on a regular basis from his private physician. Taking note of the arguments, the court ruled that Singh should be allowed to see his eye doctor since he needs proper care, which may not be available while he is incarcerated. The court stated that it did not see any justification for refusing Singh’s request to receive private medical care.

The court further directed that no supporter of the accused be allowed near him in order to prevent any unnecessary trouble to patients of eye centres.
The court also allowed Sanjay Singh to sign two cheques for the purpose of meeting family expenses and also permitted him to sign two letters addressed to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with the release of the transfer of funds.
On the last date of the hearing, the same court had warned Singh not to give a political speech here in the courtroom and said, “If such speeches are made the court will direct his production through video conferencing”.
