Election ‘Looted’: Congress Worker Jagdish Sharma Raises Alarm Ahead of Vote Counting

Congress worker Jagdish Sharma voiced concerns over alleged electoral malpractices, claiming that the elections had been “looted” even before the vote counting commenced. Sharma emphasized the people’s trust in the constitutional system, stating that the counting of votes is merely a formality.

Asserting the party’s confidence, Jagdish Sharma remarked on Congress’ anticipated success, suggesting that they might secure up to 300 seats based on public trust. However, he expressed skepticism regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), citing a decade of electoral losses despite continuous efforts.

As India gears up for the mammoth task of counting votes, which commences at 8 am today, stringent security measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth process. Over 8,000 candidates await the outcome of this general election, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seeks a historic third term in government.

Exit polls have largely predicted a return of PM Modi to power, potentially marking him as the first Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to secure three consecutive terms.

In a separate development, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc leaders met with the Election Commission of India, urging the prioritization of postal ballot counting before EVM results.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar assured the public of a robust electoral process, detailing the extensive arrangements in place across the nation’s 10.5 lakh booths.

Delhi, the national capital, braces for the election outcome with tight security measures. Having witnessed the culmination of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections conducted over seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1, the nation awaits the verdict that will shape its political landscape for the coming years.
