In a focused operation under its ongoing special campaign, the East District Police arrested five Bangladeshi nationals staying unlawfully in Delhi. The action is part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigrants in the National Capital Region.

Caught in Anand Vihar

According to an official statement, these individuals, which included three minors, had entered India illegally through unguarded river routes near the Indo-Bangladesh border. They were living in the Anand Vihar area of East Delhi and were trying to avoid detection.

Police officials described the arrests as a significant move in their continued efforts to protect internal security and enforce immigration laws.

Special Team Formed for Operation

To identify and take action against undocumented immigrants, the East District Police had launched a time-bound verification drive. A special team from the Special Staff was formed, led by Inspector Jitendra Malik and guided by ACP (Operations) Pawan Kumar.

The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of senior officers. The team collected intelligence from both technical and human sources and, after persistent efforts, managed to track and detain the five individuals.

Interrogation and Discovery

Acting on specific intelligence, the Special Staff conducted a raid at Anand Vihar. During this raid, they apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors.

After sustained questioning, none of the suspects could show valid Indian identity or citizenship documents. Police also found digital records on their mobile phones showing documents linked to Bangladeshi citizenship.

Among the detained was 39-year-old Shafiqul Islam from Sadar Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh. He was living in Delhi with his 34-year-old wife and their three children. None of them had the legal documentation required to stay in India.

Legal Action and Deportation

Authorities have started deportation procedures in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi. This process is being carried out in line with proper legal protocols.

Reiterating their stance, Delhi Police said, “Delhi Police reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order and addressing issues of illegal immigration with utmost seriousness.”

Part of a Wider Campaign

This operation is a part of a larger campaign that began on November 19, 2024. Since its launch, East District Police have identified and deported 25 illegal Bangladeshi nationals.

The verification drive continues, and police are working to locate more undocumented immigrants living in the area.
