Doctor’s Diary Could Be Key Evidence In Kolkata Rape Murder Case

The ongoing investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital has turned its attention to a personal diary maintained by the victim. Sources revealed to CNN-News18 that the diary, handed over by the victim’s parents to the investigation team, is now a critical piece of evidence.

The deceased doctor’s parents had previously informed investigators and the media that their daughter had expressed dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the hospital and had mentioned to her family that she was reluctant to return to work there. According to sources, the diary could offer crucial insights into the victim’s mental state before her death. Investigators are also examining the diary to determine if there were any documented interactions, threats, or altercations involving the accused, Sanjay Roy.

In addition to the diary, a notepad belonging to the doctor is also under scrutiny for potential leads. This notepad was discovered at the crime scene along with other pieces of evidence, according to sources.

Psychological Analysis of the Accused

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to subject Sanjay Roy, the accused in the case, to further scientific examinations. A team of psychological experts is expected to arrive in Kolkata on Sunday to assist in this aspect of the investigation. An official from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) stated, “The investigating team felt the need for psychological analysis of the accused. Experts will aid in this process.”

On Saturday, the CBI team visited Roy’s residence and collected material evidence from his barracks at the 4th battalion of Kolkata armed police. The team was seen leaving with boxes of evidence, which are now under examination.

Hospital Management Under Scrutiny

The CBI’s investigation has also focused on the actions of the hospital management. Former principal Sandeep Ghosh was questioned for the second consecutive day at the CBI’s office in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area. Ghosh was released around midnight on Friday after an extended interrogation session.

Officials suggest that the CBI is probing the hospital’s initial narrative of suicide, questioning why this theory was promoted and why there was a significant delay in notifying the police. Records indicate that the first call to Kolkata police was made at 10:10 AM, approximately 40 minutes after the doctor’s body was discovered.

The investigation is also exploring why renovation work on the hospital’s fourth floor was not halted, despite the proximity to the crime scene. Ghosh has been asked to justify the urgency of the renovations, especially in light of allegations that the work may have compromised evidence or tampered with the crime scene, located in a seminar hall adjacent to the renovation area.
