As a tribute to India’s greatest soldiers, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has designed an entire platform wall at the Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh Metro station on the Pink Line to commemorate the Param Vir Chakra (PVC) recipients. The PVC is India’s most prestigious military award, awarded for incredible bravery against the enemy, irrespective of rank or branch of service.
A Tribute to the Ultimate Bravery
The Param Vir Chakra, “Wheel of the Ultimate Brave,” has been given 21 times, 14 of them posthumously. DMRC’s effort is an expression of the strong commitment towards honoring the sacrifices of these valorous heroes. The Moti Bagh station platform now sports a beautiful gallery of PVC awardees’ portraits. Designed by a group of talented artists, every detailed and realistic portrait reflects the unbreakable spirit and bravery of these soldiers, with supporting descriptions that pay tribute to their memory.
Inspiration for Commuters
DMRC invites people to take a moment to remember the sacrifices of these war heroes. The installation is not just a celebration of their bravery but also an expression of the strength and resilience of the Indian spirit. It is a moving reminder of the patriotism and selflessness of the individuals who lost their lives for the country’s protection.
Building National Pride
By incorporating this tribute in the Delhi Metro, DMRC has developed a special place that promotes national pride. It is an example of how infrastructure can be utilized to support cultural appreciation and stimulate the community with significant historical accounts. This act is yet another example of DMRC’s commitment to naming stations after India’s military personnel, as has been seen in naming metro stations after noted heroes such as Major Mohit Sharma Rajendra Nagar, Arjan Garh, and Brigadier Hoshiar Singh, amongst others.
A Permanent Tribute to Gallantry
Along with this tribute, DMRC has also put up a permanent exhibition called “Veerta Aur Vikas” at the Rajouri Garden Metro station. This, too, serves as a tribute to the gallantry of Indian Armed Forces recipients. Moreover, the exhibition honors individuals who have displayed unprecedented courage in protecting the sovereignty of the nation. In doing so, it reinforces DMRC’s ongoing efforts to commemorate the bravery and dedication of our armed forces across its network.
