Diwali is the festival of lights. It shows the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The festival has great cultural and spiritual importance. It also celebrates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

On this day, homes, streets, and temples across India shine with diyas, lights, and colourful decorations. Families come together to celebrate with prayers, sweets, and gifts.

This year, Diwali will be celebrated on October 20, according to the Drik Panchang. The Lakshmi Puja Muhurat, which is the best time to worship, will be from 7:08 PM to 8:18 PM. The puja will last for 1 hour and 11 minutes. This is the perfect time for families to pray to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Diwali on 20 or 21?

As Diwali approaches, many people get confused about the exact date. This confusion happens because Diwali follows the Hindu lunar calendar. It is celebrated on the Amavasya (new moon) of the Kartik month. Sometimes the tithi, or lunar day, overlaps across two days in different parts of India.

But according to Drik Panchang, which is considered a very accurate Hindu calendar, the Amavasya Tithi falls on October 20. So, Diwali will definitely be celebrated on Monday, October 20, and the Lakshmi Puja should also be done on this day.

Lakshmi Puja Muhurat and Timings

The Pradosh Kaal, which is an especially good time for evening prayers, will be from 5:46 PM to 8:18 PM.

Within this period, the Vrishabha Kaal is the most favourable time for performing the Lakshmi Puja. It will last from 7:08 PM to 9:03 PM.

Doing the puja during this time is believed to bring wealth, happiness, and prosperity. Families across India will worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kubera to receive their blessings for good fortune and success in life.

Celebration of Light, Prosperity, and Harmony

Diwali, also called Deepavali, is more than a religious festival. It is a time for family, togetherness, and gratitude. People clean and decorate their homes, exchange gifts, and light diyas and candles. Sweets are shared, and prayers are offered to invite positive energy and blessings.

This year, people are also being asked to celebrate in an eco-friendly way. With the Supreme Court considering a limited relaxation on the firecracker ban in Delhi-NCR, experts suggest using eco-friendly diyas and minimal firecrackers.

Environmental expert Sunil Dahiya said, “We need to control all sources of pollution at the source, including episodic events such as firecracker bursting.” His words remind everyone that a green Diwali is important, so we can enjoy the festival without harming the environment.

What This Diwali Truly Means?

To clear all doubts — Diwali 2025 will be celebrated on Monday, October 20. The Lakshmi Puja Muhurat is from 7:08 PM to 8:18 PM.

As diyas light up homes and families come together for prayers, Diwali reminds everyone that hope, faith, and goodness always shine brighter than darkness. It is a festival that brings joy, prosperity, and peace to every home.
