To inform them of the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and the ongoing three-month campaign to increase coverage of such micro-insurance schemes, Vivek Joshi, secretary at the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, hosted a video conference meeting with chief secretaries and senior officials of all States and UTs.
The three-month program, which began in April, will cover all districts. During the discussion, the DFS secretary asked state officials to enhance enrollment in certain programmes.
According to a Ministry of Finance announcement on Tuesday, active enrolments under PMJJBY and PMSBY are 8.3 crore and 23.9 crore, respectively, and claims totaling Rs 15,500 crore have been paid under these programmes.
In order to ensure that the campaign reaches the largest number of eligible beneficiaries, the secretary will meet with the heads of all Public Sector Banks on Thursday.
The PMJJBY and PMSBY schemes were developed with the goal of providing citizens with life and accidental insurance coverage as part of their social security coverage.
PMJJBY provides insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh in the event of death for any reason, whereas PMSBY gives accidental insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh in the event of death or total permanent disability, and Rs 1 lakh in the event of partial permanent impairment.
