Delhi Storm: Mother, 3 Children Killed in House Collapse

A deadly thunderstorm that ravaged Delhi early on Friday morning killed a 26-year-old woman and her three minor children in the Najafgarh locality. Their house collapsed in Kharkhari Nagar village, Jafarpur Kalan, when a tree fell onto the building, police added. The woman’s husband, who was also trapped, survived the collapse but suffered injuries.

Officiating authorities got a distress signal around 5:26 am, reporting a structural failure at the location. Acting quickly, the personnel from the local police and Delhi Fire Services were quick to reach the spot.

Upon arrival, the rescuers found that a tree had fallen on a room next to a tubewell, causing the building to collapse. “The woman, her three children were recovered from under the rubble while the husband was rescued but injured,” said an officer.

Police have confirmed that the bodies were moved to a city mortuary for postmortem. The investigation into the incident is underway. Deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh was unavailable for comment. This story will be updated as soon as his statement is received.

The severe pre-dawn thunderstorm induced mass inconvenience in the national capital. There was extensive waterlogging and jams in several areas of the city. Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were also affected, with a minimum of three flights diverted and more than 100 delayed, as per officials who were briefed on the situation.
