Delhi-NCR yesterday witnessed heavy rainfall, which continued into Friday morning. Thus, causing waterlogging and snarling traffic jams in various parts of the city.
Despite the relief from sweltering heatwave, the daily life of common people has been drastically disrupted.
As per weather department IMD, Delhi witnessed 228 mm of rain, starting from 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to 8:30 A.M. on Friday. It is a highest 24-hour rainfall recorded in June since 1936.
But this recent heavy monsoon season has greatly exposed the problems associated with city’s infrastructure. Which for a long time has been greatly neglected, especially the drainage system.
Commuters and vehicle owners also faced a huge inconvenience, as roads were submerged in various parts of the city.
Major areas like ITO, Hanuman Temple Intersection connecting Mandi house, Ashoka Road, Feroz Shah Road, and Connaught Place witnessed two-to-three feet of water accumulation. Causing long traffic Jams in these areas.
In addition, the Moolchand area also reported a similar conditions.
The situation was equally severe for Noida residents, as various areas of NCR like Mahamaya Flyover, Sector 62, and Sector 15 and 16 also witnessed waterlogging.
Moroever, the air travel in Delhi has also been affected, following roof collapse in Delhi airport at Terminal 1. Leaving six people injured and one dead. As a result, it has triggered a war of words between BJP and opposition party congress.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the city has been decreased to 24.7 degrees Celsius, following friday rain. Which is decreased by 3.2 degrees below normal. But overall, this rain serves as a important reminder, that there is a urgent need to improve rain preparedness in Delhi.
