Delhi-NCR faced severe disruption as heavy rainfall lashed the region for the third consecutive day, leading to waterlogging and tragic incidents. In Okhla, a man lost his life after drowning in the underpass amidst rising waters, prompting swift police action.
According to Delhi Police, a PCR call alerted authorities to the drowning at Okhla underpass, where they found an unconscious individual submerged in water. Despite immediate medical attention, the man succumbed to the incident. Legal procedures are underway, the police confirmed.
The downpour, which brought relief from scorching temperatures, also wreaked havoc across the city with reports of submerged cars and uprooted trees. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officially declared the onset of monsoon in Delhi-NCR, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across northern India for the next few days.
As the region braces for continued rainfall, authorities advise caution and preparedness to mitigate further risks and ensure public safety amid the monsoon onslaught.
