Delhi Mustafabad Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to 11, Landlord Among Dead

The death toll in the tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Mustafabad rose to 11 on Saturday, with rescue teams working relentlessly for over 12 hours to pull survivors and victims from the rubble. Among the deceased is the 60-year-old landlord, Tehsin, as confirmed by the Delhi Police.

Eight Victims Belonged to One Family

Authorities announced that eight of the victims belonged to the same family. The roster of the dead also includes three women and four children, pointing to the magnitude of the tragedy that transpired in the early morning hours.

Rescue Operations Continue Through the Day

Rescue operations were initiated the moment the four-storey building collapsed at around 2:39 am. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District) Sandeep Lamba confirmed the timing of the collapse.

Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal informed ANI, “We reached the spot and discovered that the whole building has collapsed and people are stuck under the rubble… NDRF, Delhi Fire Service are rescuing the people.”

The rescue effort was undertaken by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Delhi Police, and local volunteers. They were able to rescue 22 people trapped in the rubble.

Injuries and Hospitalisation

Eleven other people were injured in the incident. Six of them have been discharged after being treated, and five are still receiving medical treatment.

Government Responds, Investigation Launched

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta condoled the tragic accident and promised a proper investigation into the collapse. “I offer my deepest condolences to the people who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident. May God grant peace to the souls of the deceased and give strength to the bereaved families to endure this irreparable loss,” she stated.

She also confirmed that several government agencies, such as the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), NDRF, and DFS, are collaborating to assist in the rescue and relief operations. The reason behind the collapse of the building is still not clear and under investigation.
