Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the appointment of 232 General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO-Doctors) in various Delhi Government hospitals to address existing vacancies.
These doctors, appointed by the UPSC, were part of a concerted effort initiated after LG Saxena took charge to fill longstanding vacancies, the LG office announced on Sunday. Designated as Group “A” officials, they will be posted across hospitals including Lok Nayak, Raja Harish Chandra, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospitals, as well as other CDMO offices, with assignments completed through the NCSSA.
The appointments aim to resolve delays in the recruitment of permanent doctors, an issue exacerbated by the AAP government’s reliance on ad-hoc and contractual hires in recent years.
On August 4, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj accused LG Saxena’s office of spreading misinformation about the acute shortage of medical personnel in government hospitals.
“The LG continuously hides behind his office and indirectly spreads lies to the public and media,” Bhardwaj said during a press conference. “I request the LG to stop hiding behind his office and instead hold a press conference to address these claims directly, so appropriate action can be taken against him for any falsehoods.”

Bhardwaj further alleged that the LG’s actions repeatedly reveal his failures, adding, “Nature seems to create opportunities to expose Delhi’s LG Vinai Saxena and reveal his truth to the entire country.”
