Votes of the Delhi assembly elections started pouring in from the morning of Thursday at 8 a.m, which would settle whether Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will emerge victoriously for their fourth successive win or if Bhartiya Janta Party, BJP will bounce back in New Delhi after staying out of capital for the past 26 years.
Congress aims to garner gains in this momentous election fight after it saw two consecutive polls defeat. According to tradition, many leaders from AAP and BJP started their day with prayers before the results were announced.
Counting is happening at 19 centers in 11 districts with high security arrangements at all the places. Shahdara, Central Delhi, East, South, and Southwest districts have one counting center each, while North, West, Northeast, and Southeast districts have two counting centers each. New Delhi and Northwest districts have three counting stations each.
Exit polls have predicted a majority victory for BJP over AAP, which has been ruling since 2015.
The Election Commission reported the voter turnout of 60.54 Wednesday. However, political tensions outside AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s residence peak on the eve of results as officials from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) visited in a bid to seek evidence on his claim BJP attempted to poach AAP candidates.
The officials had refused to meet Kejriwal at his residence in Ferozeshah Road. The officials served a legal notice demanding proof of Kejriwal’s allegations against them after an ACB probe was ordered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, on the other hand, exuded confidence that AAP would win in almost 50 seats but has dismissed the exit poll projections done by the party.
